Pakistan’s Defense Minister: There is a possibility of new round of Iran-US talks

ISLAMABAD, April 13 (YPA) – Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said on Monday that a new round of talks between Iran and the United States is expected to begin soon.

Talking to the media, Khawaja Asif said there is still a possibility of resuming talks, expressing satisfaction following last Saturday’s discussions in Islamabad.

“There were no negative aspects regarding the talks,” he said.

The Pakistani defense minister further said that only positive news is being received regarding the talks, which is welcome for stability in the region.

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported that regional officials say countries in the Middle East are stepping up efforts to bring the United States and Iran back to the negotiating table.

According to those officials, the door to diplomacy remains open “despite hardline rhetoric from both sides,” with the possibility of a new round of talks in the coming days.

The Iranian delegation was described as having shown a constructive attitude during negotiations in Pakistan.

In this context, Iran’s Deputy Parliament Speaker Ali Nikzad stated on Monday that Tehran had been prepared to demonstrate goodwill in previous nuclear negotiations by diluting a significant portion of its enriched uranium stockpile.

The remarks follow talks in Islamabad, which ended in deadlock after 21 hours of intense deliberations. Soon after, US President Donald Trump announced a naval blockade on Iran and any vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with Iranian authorities.

Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, responded to Trump’s threats, saying that security in the Gulf and the Sea of Oman will be enforced on a reciprocal basis.

“If the security of the ports of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the waters of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman is threatened, no port in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman will be safe,” the spokesperson said, warning that any threat to Iranian maritime security would result in broader regional consequences.
