Saudi-backed forces steal donkeys from Shabwa residents

SHABWA, March 26 – A local activist in Shabwa province has exposed a bizarre theft carried out by Saudi-backed armed elements, who reportedly stole citizens’ donkeys in a scene that quickly drew widespread ridicule.

Abu Kahlan al-Khalifi al-Hilali detailed the incident on his Facebook page, sharing a photo showing the stolen animals loaded onto a military vehicle alongside the militants.

Al-Hilali described the incident as part of the organized looting and moral decay among these forces in the region.

He commented: “We hear about many thefts, but this is the first time we see donkeys being stolen,” highlighting the broader pattern of extortion and looting that residents face under Saudi-backed factions.

The activist identified the donkeys as belonging to a local resident, Abu Kunuz al-Youbi, and urged the perpetrators to return the animals immediately, warning that he would publicly name both the soldiers involved and their commander if the theft went unaddressed.

Al-Hilali said the incident is consistent with previous campaigns targeting residents’ livestock, reflecting a systematic practice of theft and abuse conducted under the cover of weapons and military influence.

He concluded his post with a sardonic remark that quickly went viral: “May Allah protect the chickens,” alluding to fears that thefts could soon target poultry and other small personal belongings amid the ongoing security chaos.
