Hebrew media: “Israel” plans to establish a new city east of Rafah
GAZA, Aug. 09 (YPA) – “Israel” plans to establish a new city east of Rafah, behind what is known as the “Yellow Line,” with the UAE financing and building the city while it remains under Israeli security control.
According to the Israeli occupation army radio, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered work to begin on the project’s infrastructure, which would remain under Israeli control.
Hebrew reports indicated that Netanyahu and Katz issued the decision two weeks ago, coinciding with approval for the deployment of international forces in Gaza.
“Green Rafah” is an area controlled by the Israeli occupation army within the so-called Yellow Line separating areas occupied by “Israel” from zones where Palestinians are allowed to move.
The area has been “completely leveled and cleared and is currently empty” and will be “under the control of a multinational force,” the radio said.
“The infrastructure works that have now been given the green light will allow contractors and workers to enter the area and carry out excavation work and connect electricity, water and sewage systems,” the report said.
“The contractors and workers who will operate in the area are Palestinians from Gaza,” the outlet said, citing Israeli security sources.
“They are currently undergoing security screening by the Shin Bet security agency to obtain approval to enter areas along the Yellow Line. They are expected to begin work within weeks, or shortly thereafter,” the sources stated.
Earlier, Hebrew reports said “Israel” had asked the UAE to allow Israeli-backed operatives in Gaza to screen Palestinians entering the new city and manage security there, despite the so-called “Board of Peace” calling for the dismantling of militias collaborating with the occupation.
The groups, comprising collaborators, looters, and outlaws recruited during the conflict, would reportedly operate under direct Israeli military supervision to enforce local security and suppress the population.
The plan also calls for container-based residential compounds in the “green zone,” each housing around 25,000 Palestinians within an area of no more than one square kilometer, surrounded by fences and checkpoints. An observatory reported that work had already begun on a pilot city in heavily destroyed Rafah, warning that control over housing, aid, and basic services could be used to pressure residents and facilitate their forced displacement.
