Gunmen in 50 vehicles seize prisoners from Al-Adwas camp in Hadramout

HADRAMOUT, Jan. 20 (YPA) – An official document has revealed controversial field developments in Hadramout Governorate over the past few hours, as a massive tribal force arriving from Marib entered the “Al-Adwas” military camp in the plateau region to take custody of several detainees.

According to the document issued by the Joint Operations Center in Hadramout last Monday, a tribal delegation was granted formal permission to enter the province with their personal weapons, traveling in a convoy of 50 vehicles directly to the camp.

This tribal influx reportedly occurred with the explicit approval of the Saudi-backed Governor of Hadramout, Salem Al-Khanbashi. The mission’s primary objective was to secure the release of prisoners held at Al-Adwas who are accused of large-scale looting of military camps and vital government facilities. These incidents followed the withdrawal of the UAE-aligned Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces earlier this January.

However, the move has sparked significant backlash, with local activists reporting a wave of ridicule and anger across Hadramout’s community regarding the tribal mediation.

Critics argue that allowing armed tribal groups into the Ghail Bin Yamin plateau not only undermines the authority of the “Hadrami Elite” forces but also serves to legitimize chaos and erode the rule of law in the region.
