Iran threatens to make US bases “legal targets” following Trump’s remarks

TEHRAN, Jan. 02 (YPA) – Tehran has escalated its rhetoric against Washington as Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf threatened to turn all U.S. bases and military forces in the Middle East into “legal targets” should the United States engage in any “adventurism” against Iran.

Writing on the “X” platform, Ghalibaf addressed what he called the “disrespectful U.S. President,” asserting that official recognition of interference in Iranian affairs grants Tehran the right to respond militarily.

These remarks came in response to recent statements by President Donald Trump, who suggested the U.S. would assist Iranian protesters if they faced violent crackdowns.

Ghalibaf accused foreign intelligence agencies of attempting to transform “legal protests” into armed confrontations. He emphasized that the Islamic Republic distinguishes between legitimate protesters and those he described as “foreign agents.”

This geopolitical tension unfolds as Iran faces severe inflation and a historic currency collapse. Since the U.S. withdrawal from the nuclear deal in May 2018, the Iranian Rial has plummeted from approximately 50,000 to nearly 1.4 million per USD in the free market.
