Trump announces “crushing economic war” on Iran, threatens sanctions on supporting countries

WASHINGTON, Aug. 20 (YPA) – US President Donald Trump has announced the launch of an unprecedented economic offensive and isolation campaign against Iran, warning of severe economic repercussions for any country whose institutions provide support to Tehran.

Trump likened the measures to an economic “Normandy landing” aimed at isolating and defeating Iran in coordination with allies. He called for a halt to Iranian oil smuggling, illicit cash transfers, front companies, and vessel registries to paralyze Tehran and curb its regional activities.

The announcement coincides with the US Central Command (CENTCOM) intensifying a naval blockade involving more than 20 warships in the Middle East, as Tehran continues its maritime restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz following the collapse of a framework agreement with Washington and the cancellation of bilateral talks.
