Sanaa’s Specialized Court hears defense arguments in “spy cell” case linked to US, “Israel”

SANAA, Dec. 22 (YPA) – The Specialized Criminal Appeals Division in Sanaa held a session on Monday to hear the defense arguments for 21 individuals accused of collaborating with U.S., Israeli, and Saudi intelligence services.

The defendants are part of a spy cell operating through a command center based in Riyadh.

During the session, presided over by Judge Abdullah al-Najjar, the defense submitted appeal briefs requesting a formal examination and discussion of the material evidence.

Meanwhile, the Public Prosecution reaffirmed its commitment to the initial trial court’s ruling, which sentenced 17 defendants to death and two others to 10 years in prison, while acquitting two.

At the conclusion of the session, the court ordered the release of one detainee on medical grounds and the release of the two individuals previously acquitted by the lower court. The court also granted the remaining defendants the opportunity to present exculpatory evidence during the upcoming session.
