DOHA, Nov. 18 (YPA) – Osama Hamdan, a senior Hamas official, said Monday evening that the current US proposal at the UN Security Council aligns with Israel’s plans to eliminate the Palestinian cause, asserting that it favors “Israel” and seeks to impose guardianship over the Palestinian people.
Speaking to Al Jazeera Mubasher, Hamdan said the US draft resolution violates international charters and resolutions and ignores what he described as the core of the problem — the Israeli enemy — stressing that no rational Palestinian could accept the proposal in its current form.
Hamdan added that the proposal reinforces the Palestinian view that resistance remains the path to ending the occupation, warning that its adoption would set a precedent in which “the language of force overrides international legitimacy.”
He described the Arab-Islamic framework proposed by Egypt as the most suitable model for administering the Gaza Strip, saying that the Palestinian people’s ability to continue resisting cannot be constrained by a resolution that contradicts international law.
The Hamas leader emphasized that no clause on disarming resistance was discussed in Sharm El-Sheikh.
He added, “We reject the equation of being killed or surrendering.”
He further stated that the US draft resolution “does not establish a force to protect our people from extermination, but rather to replace the occupation.”
Hamdan concluded by saying that Hamas has contacted Security Council member states to convey its concerns regarding the US proposal.
