NEW YORK, Nov. 18 (YPA) – The UN Security Council on Monday passed a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire for the month of Ramadan, the immediate and unconditional release of hostages and “the urgent need to expand the flow” of aid into Gaza.
There were 14 votes in favour with the United States abstaining.
The US resolution endorses President Donald Trump’s 20-point ceasefire plan, which calls for a yet-to-be-established Board of Peace as a transitional authority that Trump would head.
It also authorizes the stabilization force and gives it a wide mandate, including overseeing the borders, providing security and demilitarizing the territory.
The resolution affirms that the situation in Gaza threatens regional peace and the security of neighboring states, and recalls previous Security Council resolutions related to the Middle East, including the Palestinian cause .
It stresses the importance of fully resuming the delivery of humanitarian assistance to Gaza, in accordance with relevant principles of international law and through cooperating organizations, including the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
The resolution further calls on the World Bank and other financial institutions to facilitate and provide financial resources for Gaza’s reconstruction and development, including through the establishment of a donor-managed trust fund for this purpose.
