NEW YORK, Nov. 15 (YPA) – The UN Security Council is set to vote next Monday on a US-drafted resolution intended to support US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for the Gaza Strip, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
This swift move by Washington follows calls from several nations, including Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, to accelerate the adoption of the draft, which is considered a framework for ending the two-year-long war.
The resolution has joint backing from the United States, Qatar, Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Turkey, among others. It calls for the formation of an international stabilization force and the establishment of a Peace Council as a transitional governing body in Gaza.
In a notable development, the draft includes a reference to the possibility of a future Palestinian state for the first time in recent US-led drafts.
