Sanaa Consolidates Sovereign Presence in Red Sea: 17,000 Coast Guard Security Missions in 3 Months
HODEIDA, Nov. 05 (YPA) – In an exceptional moment for the region, the Yemeni Coast Guard forces affiliated with the Sanaa government continue to assert their strong presence in the Red Sea sector, acting as a sovereign force that controls maritime security and secures Yemeni waterways and ports, despite escalating challenges and risks due to aggression and blockade.
Over the past three months, the Coast Guard forces in the Red Sea sector of Hodeida governorate achieved a series of qualitative accomplishments, bolstering stability in one of the most sensitive and strategic sectors, especially in light of current developments related to supporting the Palestinian people in Gaza and the accompanying Yemeni actions to prohibit Israeli navigation in the Red Sea.
According to an official statistic issued by the Coast Guard Authority Presidency, the forces carried out over 17,600 security and maritime missions. These included:
- Securing commercial and oil vessels arriving at Yemeni ports.
- Executing 80 maritime patrols to secure vessels anchored offshore.
- Conducting 69 special missions to protect international vessels.
- Carrying out 15,948 missions to secure and regulate commercial and oil trucks and trailers inside the ports.
- Securing the entry and exit of over 70,000 fishing boats at various fishing landing centers and piers, including Eritrean boats, which were handled according to legal procedures.
On the humanitarian and service front, the Search and Rescue and Coast Guard team executed over 350 awareness and maritime rescue missions, during which they returned missing children to their families and continued to secure beaches and tourist areas to protect citizens and visitors.
The Coast Guard Authority Presidency confirms that these actions are part of its security responsibility and its vital role in enhancing maritime security and stability in territorial waters, and protecting ports, centers, and fishing landing piers along the western coastal strip in the Red Sea sector of Hodeida governorate.
According to observers, these achievements reflect the success of the Sanaa government in transforming the Red Sea into an area of national control and stability, far from external meddling and piracy that threatened Yemeni waters for years. They affirm that the Coast Guard today constitutes the first line of defense for Yemeni sovereignty and safe navigation amidst major regional shifts and Sanaa’s supportive stance towards Gaza.
