Kidnapping of head of Refinery Workers’ Union sparks protests in Aden

ADEN, Oct. 20 (YPA) – The Coordination of Civil and Human Rights Forces in Aden called for a mass protest on Tuesday in front of the Judicial Inspection headquarters in Khor-Maksar city.

The protest aims to express solidarity with Ghassan Jawad, the head of the Aden Refinery Workers’ Union, who has been kidnapped by factions affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council, and to demand his immediate and unconditional release.

In a statement, the Coordination demanded an end to what it described as the “systematic targeting” of unionists and the attempt to silence voices demanding workers’ rights.

It warned against the consequences of turning a blind eye to these violations, which constitute a dangerous indicator of the curtailment of public freedoms in areas under coalition control.

The statement also emphasized that “people’s dignity is not a crime, and rights cannot be arrested.”
