Sanaa rejects UN statement regarding spying charges

SANAA, Oct. 19 (YPA) – The Sanaa-based Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates rejected on Sunday the statement by the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General regarding the case of the organization’s employees arrested on spying charges, describing it as “hasty and a denial of the truth.”

In a statement, the ministry emphasized that the UN Secretary-General should more appropriately request access to the “conclusive evidence” of “serious” espionage committed by employees of the World Food Program and UNICEF, which led to the targeting of government leaders in Sanaa.

The statement reiterated its call for the United Nations and its agencies to “dissociate themselves from hostile acts and activities” that violate its mandate and the principles of humanitarian action, noting that espionage was carried out “under the guise of aid” and for the benefit of hostile states and entities, primarily the United States and “Israel”.

It affirmed its commitment to cooperating with humanitarian organizations that adhere to its mandate, while affirming that “there is no immunity for spies and saboteurs”, and that national security and the supreme national interest are paramount.
