GAZA, Oct. 05 (YPA) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) announced on Sunday that approximately 80% of buildings in the Gaza Strip have been either partially or completely destroyed or damaged as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Strip since October 2023.
In an official statement, the agency reported that over 370 of its staff members have lost their lives during that period. This comes as Gaza is witnessing widespread destruction of infrastructure and essential services, which has significantly impacted the agency’s ability to deliver humanitarian aid to the Strip’s population of about two million people.
UNRWA added that the human and material losses have severely affected its vital programs, including education, health, food aid, and shelter. The agency stressed that the situation in Gaza constitutes an unprecedented humanitarian crisis requiring urgent and direct support from the international community to alleviate the suffering of civilians.
The agency affirmed that it is working to mobilize resources and resume its essential services despite the difficulties on the ground. It called for an end to attacks on civilian facilities and for the protection of aid workers to ensure the continuation of support for the people of the Strip.
