Dozens of drives declare general strike in Abyan

ABYAN, Aug. 13 (YPA) – Dozens of drivers on the Zinjibar-Aden road in Abyan province declared on Tuesday a general strike in protest against illegal levies and the imprisonment of their colleagues by UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions.

In a statement, the drivers confirmed that they were living under the yoke of extortion and chaos, after the Aden-based Land Transport Authority became a tool for illegal levies.

They explained that these offices required drivers to pay fees through unofficial receipts, with the proceeds going into the accounts of thieves and corrupt individuals loyal to the STC.

The drivers pointed out that STC members placed many of their fellow drivers in the  detention center, affiliated with the “Security Belt” factions in Sheikh Othman area of Aden

They demanded an end to the violations and the extortion, and the release of drivers arrested simply for objecting to the seizure of their families’ livelihood.
