BRICS summit kicks off in Rio de Janeiro with Putin’s participation

RIO DE JANEIRO, July 06 (YPA) – The BRICS summit started Sunday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and will continue on July 6-7.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate remotely, along with a Russian delegation headed by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The Kremlin confirmed that President Putin will participate via video conference in the group’s plenary session, while Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will head the Russian delegation to the summit.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov indicated that the group’s leaders will discuss issues of global peace and security, the global governance system, and ways to enhance cooperation in the political, economic, and cultural spheres.

A final statement summarizing the positions of the member states will be issued.

The group comprises 10 members: Russia, China, India, Brazil, and South Africa. Egypt, the UAE, Ethiopia, and Iran joined last year, and Indonesia joined at the beginning of this year. Other countries, including Belarus, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, and Saudi Arabia, are also cooperating with the group.
