UN Envoy arrives in Aden to revive Yemen peace process

ADEN, July 01 (YPA) – The UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg, arrived late Monday night in the Yemen’s southern port city of Aden, as part of his ongoing efforts to revive the stalled peace process in the country.

In a brief statement posted on the platform X, Grundberg said he had arrived in Aden coming from the Jordanian capital, Amman.

“I’m very happy to be back in Yemen tonight, and I’m looking forward to have serious in-depth conversations with interlocutors in Yemen,” Grundberg said upon his arrival.

Speaking to the press at Aden Airport, the UN envoy noted that his visit comes amid a “deteriorating regional situation, especially in recent months, which has further complicated our efforts to achieve a just and sustainable peace in Yemen.”

Despite regional challenges, Grundberg pointed out that Yemen is currently witnessing a state of “relative calm” domestically, describing it as a “positive sign that calls for intensified efforts to find sustainable solutions, particularly on the economic and security fronts.”

The UN envoy stressed the need for “decisive action by all Yemeni parties to break the current deadlock and pave the way for a comprehensive political settlement to end the years-long conflict.”

Grundberg’s visit to Aden is part of a broader series of diplomatic efforts led by the United Nations to bring Yemeni parties back to the negotiating table, amid growing regional tensions that are impacting the already complex Yemeni landscape and the rapid currency collapse in Aden.
