SANAA, June 19 (YPA) – The Israeli occupation army is working to reduce its use of interceptor missiles and is giving priority to defending densely populated areas and strategic infrastructure, The New York Times newspaper quoted Israeli officials.
The American newspaper revealed that as the Israeli war on Iran continues, Tel Aviv is launching interceptor missiles faster than its ability to produce them.
The newspaper quoted eight current and former officials as confirming that this pace raised questions within the Israeli security establishment about whether the air defense missiles would be exhausted before Iran exhausts its ballistic arsenal.
According to officials, the Israeli army has already been forced to rationalize its use of interceptor missiles and is giving greater priority to defending densely populated areas and strategic infrastructure.
Some Israelis also believe that the time has come to end the war before Israel’s defenses are severely tested,” according to the newspaper.
The New York Times reported that although the death toll is already high by Israeli standards, it may rise sharply if the Israeli army is forced to limit its general use of interceptor missiles in order to ensure the long-term protection of some strategic sites such as the Dimona nuclear reactor or the military headquarters in Tel Aviv.
Zohar Balti, a former senior officer in the Israeli Mossad who participated for years in defense planning, said, “When we were planning how to defend Israel in future wars, no one imagined a scenario in which we fight on so many fronts and defend against so many rounds of ballistic missiles.”
