New Vatican Pope calls for immediate ceasefire in Gaza

ROMA, May 12 (YPA) – Pope Leo XIV called on the world’s top leaders to stop wars, especially the Israeli occupation’s war against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

Regarding the war on Gaza, the 69-year-old Pope said that he is deeply pained by what is happening in the Gaza Strip, calling for an immediate ceasefire, providing humanitarian aid to the exhausted civilian population, and releasing all Israeli hostages held in the Strip.

Tens of thousands of people gathered in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican to hear the Pope’s address on his first Sunday as Bishop of Rome, a traditional opportunity for the pontiff to address developments on the international scene.
