India, Pakistan announce agreement on immediate ceasefire

WORLD, May 10 (YPA) -Pakistan and India announced on Saturday that they had agreed to an immediate ceasefire following tensions and airstrikes along the border between the two countries.

The Pakistani Foreign Minister confirmed the agreement via the X platform, noting that the decision came after intensive diplomatic efforts involving approximately 30 countries.

The Indian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the chief military officers of India and Pakistan had communicated directly and reached an agreement stipulating that both sides cease fire with immediate effect.

Indicating that they are monitoring developments on the ground, the Indian Foreign Ministry also announced that the joint chiefs of staff of the Indian and Pakistani militaries will hold further talks on May 12, which points to the existence of a mechanism to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire and discuss future steps to de-escalate the situation.
