British website: Proposal of Indonesia to receive Palestinians directed by Abu Dhabi

LONDON, April 14 (YPA) – A British website stated that Jakarta’s offer to host thousands of Palestinians represents nothing more than a commercial deal led by Abu Dhabi, which it described as “complicit in the Israeli massacres in Gaza.”

On Wednesday, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced, following his visit to Abu Dhabi and meeting with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, that his country was willing to host thousands of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to facilitate the Strip’s reconstruction.

The “Middle East Monitor” website stated in an opinion piece by Indonesian writer and academic Muhammad Zulfiqar Rahmat that the Indonesian president’s visit to Abu Dhabi and his openness to the UAE to find solutions to the Palestinian genocide raise serious moral and strategic questions.

Rahmat believes that by engaging with Abu Dhabi, which has normalized relations with the Israeli occupation, his country’s president risks associating Indonesia with parties complicit in the ongoing suffering of the Palestinians, noting Abu Dhabi’s open relationship with the occupation.

He pointed out that Abu Dhabi has deepened its economic, military, and technological cooperation with Tel Aviv over the past five years.

The writer said, “It is a deceitful, if not a mockery, considering Abu Dhabi as a neutral humanitarian partner in Gaza, while its relations with Israel apparently strengthened the impunity of Israel.”

He emphasized that concluding these agreements during a visit supposedly focused on Gaza demonstrates the use of humanitarian concern as a tool for economic diplomacy.

Rahmat stressed the need for Indonesia not to treat the suffering of the Palestinians as a bargaining chip to strengthen relations with a wealthy partner.
