Dutch university suspends student exchange with Israeli counterpart

SANAA, March 16 (YPA) – The University of Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, announced that it has temporarily suspended its student exchange program with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem due to the risk of complicity in human rights violations.

In a statement, the university explained that the “Advisory Committee on Cooperation with Third Parties,” established within the university last summer, expressed a negative opinion regarding continued cooperation with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The statement included remarks by the university’s president, Peter-Paul Verbeek, who expressed his commitment to protect information security and avoiding the risk of contributing to human rights violations.

“As a university, we support open collaboration and exchanges, also we want to shape these collaborations responsibly, and at present, these collaborations with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and other institutions are plagued by problematic aspects,” he added.
