SANAA, Feb. 20 (YPA) – The Sydney City Council has approved a motion to boycott and divest from companies involved in Israeli settlements, after a vote supported by all but one member.
The decision which made Sydney the first council in NSW to take the step, was widely welcomed by pro-Palestine organisations.
The Australian Jewish Association, which the Australian Jewish Council considers a far-right organisation, said the move was pointless and anti-Semitic.
“This will obviously have no impact on the Middle East but will hurt taxpayers and lead to increased anti-Semitism across Sydney,” they said in a statement on social media.
