Tehran warns of ethnic cleansing targeting Palestinians

TEHRAN, Feb. 03 (YPA) – Iran warned on Monday that US President Donald Trump’s proposal to transfer Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to countries such as Egypt or Jordan would amount to “ethnic cleansing”.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said in a news conference that the international community should “help the Palestinians ensure their right to self-determination, instead of pushing other ideas that would amount to ethnic cleansing,” according to Agence France-Presse.

Last week, the US president said in press statement that “Jordan and Egypt should take in more Palestinians from Gaza, where the Israeli military offensive has caused a dire humanitarian situation and killed tens of thousands,” according to Reuters.

On Friday, Trump reiterated that Jordan and Egypt would receive residents from Gaza, during statements to reporters from the Oval Office at the White House.

“Gaza is literally a place that is destroyed, almost everything is destroyed, people are dying there, so it would be better to share with some Arab countries and build housing in a different location where they can live in peace for a change,” Trump added.
