UNRWA: Famine hits Gaza in worst humanitarian scenario created by Israeli occupation

GAZA, July 29 (YPA) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) confirmed that the Gaza Strip is currently witnessing “the worst possible famine scenario,” according to estimates by leading global experts in nutrition and humanitarian crises, warning of a man-made disaster for which the Israeli occupation bears full responsibility.

In a brief statement published on its official WhatsApp channel, UNRWA explained that Gaza has “reached the brink,” with starvation and malnutrition spreading widely throughout the besieged Strip, including among children who are at risk of starvation.

The UN agency indicated that more than 100 people have died of starvation in the past few weeks alone, while relief efforts are hampered by restrictions on the entry of aid.

UNRWA stressed that the only way to avoid complete collapse is to “flood Gaza” with massive quantities of food and medical aid immediately, stressing that the United Nations, including UNRWA, has the expertise and logistical capabilities necessary to implement this.

It pointed out that it alone has about 6,000 trucks loaded with food and medicine ready to enter Gaza, but what is missing is permission to operate freely and without obstacles.

The UN agency concluded its appeal by emphasizing the need to enable its crews to work in safety and dignity, and to lift the restrictions imposed on the delivery of humanitarian aid, warning that the continuation of the current situation threatens an unprecedented mass famine in modern history.
