Thailand summons Israeli ambassador, warns against breaking laws and local traditions

BANGKOK, Sept. 10 (YPA) – The Thai Foreign Ministry summoned the Israeli ambassador in Bangkok and warned that Israeli tourists are obligated to respect local laws and traditions after tensions were reported with residents.

Bloomberg quoted Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow as saying that Thailand welcomes all tourists, but no one has the right to act as they please simply because they are a tourist.

He confirmed that the ambassador was informed of the need for her citizens to abide by Thai laws and customs, stressing that violators will face legal action.

The warning came after an incident involving an Israeli zoo owner who threatened someone who raised a Free Palestine flag.

Consequently, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul ordered the deportation of the zoo owner.
