UAE-backed factions destroy weapons of “southern resistance” in Aden

ADEN, Jan. 20 (YPA) – The UAE-backed factions have taken controversial steps aimed at destroying weapons belonging to the “Southern Resistance” citizens in the city of Aden, southern Yemen.

Local sources in the city reported that the “Military Police” factions, funded by the UAE, have started seizing weapons from the citizens of the so-called “Southern Resistance” and immediately cutting them using electric saws on their vehicles, which roam the main streets.

The sources described these actions as preemptive measures intended to thwart any movements opposing the Saudi-led coalition, in protest of the systematic starvation policy and the exacerbation of citizens’ suffering through a new fuel price hike.

This comes alongside the catastrophic economic collapse, the deterioration of the Yemeni riyal against foreign currencies, and the interruption of salaries and basic services.

The sources clarified that the campaign is divided into two stages: the first stage involves destroying and cutting the weapons, while the second stage focuses on confiscating weapons from citizens, in collaboration with community committees set up by the factions in local neighborhoods.

Opponents of the coalition factions in Aden believe that the goal of these actions is to ensure the monopoly of weapons in the hands of the pro- coalition factions, in anticipation of any armed attempts under the pretext of “armed struggle” following calls for a general strike and widespread protests against the policy of starvation and the lack of services in Aden and other southern areas next Sunday.
