MAHRA, June 30 (YPA) – Citizens’ suffering has reached an unbearable level due to power outages and the deterioration of living conditions in the coalition-controlled Al-Mahra governorate, east of Yemen, local sources reported.
The sources confirmed that power outages have increased to more than 12 continuous hours, from dawn today until 3:00 PM, compared to two hours before being cut off again, coinciding with the rise in temperatures during the summer.
They said that “the leadership of the local authority is standing idly by, preventing it from purchasing a fuel shipment for the power plants from the revenues of the land ports in the governorate.”
They added that “the Leadership Council and the government affiliated with the coalition have prevented the authorities from purchasing fuel for the plants from their revenues,” indicating that fuel is purchased centrally by the special committee formed by the government in Aden.
They stated that the government is unable to purchase fuel for the power plants, amid accusations that it “enjoys” the suffering of citizens in Al-Mahra and all the way to Aden.
The sources indicated that the people of Mahra intend to hold protests in Al-Ghaydah to denounce the collapse of living conditions and services, and to demand the expulsion of foreign forces that have controlled Al-Ghaydah Airport since the beginning of 2018.
