Aden experiences up to 18 hours of daily power outages

ADEN, Dec. 08 (YPA) – Power outages in the city of Aden, which is under the control of the Saudi-led coalition, have risen to over 18 hours daily, creating an ongoing crisis for residents.

Pro-coalition media sources reported that Aden has been facing a serious electricity crisis over the past two days, with power outages reaching 9 hours, leaving only 2 hours of service in some parts of the city.

The recurring power shortages are attributed to the depletion of fuel for the power plants, while the pro-coalition government has failed to purchase an emergency fuel shipment and pay salaries for the third consecutive month.

Electricity plants in Aden went out service in mid-November due to fuel shortages, exacerbating the already deteriorating living conditions caused by the economic collapse in these areas.

Calls for help from the Aden Electricity Corporation to the “Presidential Leadership Council” have gone unanswered, with silence from the leadership of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), a key partner in the so-called “legitimate government,” whose officials are based in Riyadh and Abu Dhabi.

Southern activists have called for the formation of a “Southern Front” to remove the STC leadership from the Goldmoor headquarters before any popular movement heads toward the Maashiq Palace to expel the pro-coalition government from Aden.

The suffering of the residents has worsened since early 2016, amidst false promises from the coalition.
