Sanaa FM discusses joint cooperation with Acting UN resident coordinator, ONGs representatives

SANAA, Sept. 04 (YPA) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in the Sanaa government, Jamal Amer, met on Wednesday with Acting UN Resident Coordinator Peter Hawkins and representatives from UN organizations, programs, and agencies operating in the Republic of Yemen.

The meeting focused on discussing and enhancing cooperation between Yemen and the UN organizations in the country.

Jamal Amer expressed that the Government of Change and Construction values the existing collaboration with the United Nations, in line with the directives outlined in the government program approved by Parliament.

Amer emphasized that the Government of Change and Construction prioritizes the security and safety of international organizations and their personnel to ensure they can perform their tasks effectively.

He highlighted the importance of intensifying development and humanitarian efforts, especially given the worsening humanitarian situation.

Amer urged the Acting UN Resident Coordinator and representatives of UN organizations, programs, and agencies operating in Yemen to take serious action to address the funding shortfall.

He also called for donors to visit Sanaa to review the projects they are funding and to discuss projects in need of financial support.

The minister emphasized that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates will provide all necessary facilitation to assist them.

He explained that he understands there are pressures on the United Nations from some donors, particularly the United States, which has exerted significant pressure. This has led to a reduction in funding for humanitarian projects in Yemen, which he views as a form of punishment for Yemen’s principled stance in supporting the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

For his part, Acting Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Sana’a, Peter Hawkins, expressed the UN’s appreciation for President Mahdi Al-Mashat’s emphasis on strengthening relations and cooperation with the UN and international organizations.

Hawkins acknowledged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates’ cooperative spirit and reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to maintaining the principles governing their relationship with the Government of Change and Construction and its affiliated organizations.
