ADEN, June 30 (YPA) – Dozens of pro-STC activists called on the people of Aden and the southern province to stage popular protests in front of the gate of Ma’ashiq Palace in the Crater area.
They affirmed the coming Monday, July 7, would be the protest day to siege the of Ma’ashiq Palace, the headquarters of the members of Presidential Leadership Council and of the coalition-backed Aden government.
The activists stressed that the angry protests came aimed at denouncing the deterioration of services and the collapse of currency’s value in the market.
They explained that the peaceful sit-in in front of the Ma’ashiq Gate would be a victory for the suffering of the people of Aden, who lack the most basic necessities of life due to power outages lasting more than 17 hours a day.
The sit-in outside the gate of Ma’ashiq Palace came after a Saudi attempt, through Rashad al-Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, to expel the STC’s “Storm Forces”, which had been tasked with securing the palace since April 2022, and replace them with the Dera al-Watan or Homeland Shield Forces.
It was expected that members of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions would storm Maashiq Palace in civilian clothes in response to widespread demands for Al-Alimi’s expulsion, as part of a joint campaign launched last week by STC activists and Tariq Saleh, an nephew of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
