Threats to close “Central Bank” in Mahra

MAHRA, Dec. 06 (YPA) – The “Contractors Union” in Mahra province has given the local authorities affiliated with the Saudi-led coalition 10 days to pay the debt they owed to the union before resorting to field escalation.

The Union expressed in a statement its regret that the local authorities had not fulfilled their agreement with the Union, which was sponsored by the commander of the coalition factions in Mahra, Faisal Al-Hujaili, and a number of sheikhs and local figures.

According to the agreement, the local authorities were required to pay the dues of their contractors in installments starting in October and ending in December.

The statement issued yesterday, Tuesday, indicated that the authorities have not paid any amount of the contractors’ indebtedness since the implementation of the agreement, despite receiving central financial reinforcements that were transferred to the account of the oil company branch without disbursing to the contractors part of their dues.

The statement confirmed that the Union will resort to field escalation, hinting at closing the gate of the Central Bank branch in Al-Ghaydah city, the province’s center, with sit-ins, holding the local authorities fully responsible for the consequences of what will happen.

The Contractors Union sit-ins closed the gate of the Central Bank branch in Mahra last September, disrupting the bank’s functions and making it unable to purchase fuel for the province’s power stations.
