New Emirati plot targets Socotra Island

SOCOTRA, Aug.21 (YPA) – The UAE has planned to a adopt new projects to devote the occupation of strategic islands in Yemen, which will be signed within days to serve Abu Dhabi’s conspiracies to gain influence and expansion.

Anis Mansour, the Yemeni media activist, who is close to the Islah party, said in his post on X, formerly Twitter, that the so-called UAE-backed governor of Socotra, Raafat al-Thaqali, left on Sunday, heading to the Emirates with the contractor Omar Al-Zubaidi to sign agreements that harm the sovereignty of Socotra and the two islands of Abd al Kuri and Samha.

Mansour revealed that some of these fake projects were not implemented and were received by the governor al-Thaqali, in favor of the Emirati officer, Khalfan Al Mazrouei, through the brokers of contractor Omar Al Zubaidi.

On Sunday, sources in Socotra familiar with the matter said that the UAE appointed an officer in the UAE’s Ministry of Interior, Major Al-Anoud Ahmed Al-Saadi, as governor of the strategic island.

The Emirati move comes in the context of Abu Dhabi and Riyadh’s struggle to control the islands of Yemen, as the Saudi Arabia seeks to form a special council from the people of the island, in a repetition of the Hadramout scenario.

The UAE had indirectly managed the island in the past years through the Khalifa Foundation, which was run by Khalfan Al Mazrouei, before Al Saadi was appointed.

According to the sources, the female Officer Al Saadi previously held the position as head of the Women’s Police Council in Dubai.
