SOCOTRA, Aug. 21 (YPA) – UAE continues to consolidate its occupation of the Yemeni island of Socotra, by appointing an Emirati military governor on the island.
Informed sources in Socotra reported that the UAE has appointed Major Al-Anoud Ahmed Al-Saadi as the governor of the strategic island.
The sources pointed out that Al-Saadi is an officer in the UAE Ministry of Interior, and previously held the post of chairman of the women’s police council in the emirate of Dubai.
The Emirati move comes in the context of the struggle between Abu Dhabi and Riyadh for control of the island, as UAE seeks to form a special council of Islanders in a repeat of Hadramout scenario.
