UN envoy hopes restrictions on movement to/from Yemen will be lifted
SANAA, June 18 (YPA) – The UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grodenberg, welcomed on Sunday the operation of flights for Yemeni pilgrims from Sanaa to Saudi Arabia.
In a statement on his Telegram channel, the UN envoy expressed his hope that this positive step and the atmosphere of peace during the pilgrimage season would encourage the parties to take more steps to ease and lift the restrictions imposed on the freedom of movement of civilians inside and outside Yemen, and to reach a comprehensive cease-fire and the resumption of the political process under the auspices of the United Nations.
On Saturday, Sanaa announced the departure of the first group of Yemeni pilgrims through Sanaa Airport to perform the rituals of Hajj and Umrah for the current year 1444 AH via a “Yemenia” plane with 268 people on board.
