Iran welcomes to resume diplomatic relations with Egypt

TEHRAN, June 12 (YPA) – Iran has renewed its welcome to resume diplomatic relations with Egypt.

Spokesman of Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Nasser Kanaani, said, in a news conference on Monday, the Iranian government places neighboring countries and the region among its priorities, noting that this applies to Egypt as well.

“If the Egyptian government wants to resume relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, we welcome that,” he added.

Regarding Iranian-Egyptian relations, Kanaani said: “The clear position of the government and the diplomatic apparatus has already been announced, and the leadership presented its views in the meeting with the Sultan of Oman.”

Sources have already reported that representatives from Egypt and Iran have been meeting in Iraq since March with the Iraqi mediation, as the talks covered tensions in Yemen, Lebanon and Syria, and the possibility of a meeting between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his Iranian counterpart, Ebrahim Raisi, was also discussed.

Tensions in the region have eased, following the return of Syria to the Arab League, and the prospect of peace between the Saudi Arabia and Sanaa government about peace in Yemen.
