US House passes bill to halt attacks on Iran

WASHINGTON, Sept. 16 (YPA) – The US House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a War Powers bill aimed at halting American military attacks on Iran and reasserting Congress’s authority to declare war, directing President Donald Trump to withdraw military forces from the region.

The bill, introduced by Democratic Representative Seth Moulton, passed in a 220–204 vote. Seven Republicans crossed party lines to vote in favor of the measure.

In a statement, Gregory Meeks, a Democratic member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said the Trump administration had failed to achieve its stated objectives over the ongoing 200-day conflict, noting that this marks the third War Powers resolution passed by Congress to end the war.

Meeks urged immediate action to halt the conflict, stating that the US president must end the effort, appoint career diplomats rather than real estate developers, and engage in multilateral diplomacy to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and de-escalate tensions.
