SANAA, Aug. 11 (YPA) – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya expressed concern about the abduction and disappearance, Reza Faraj Al Freitais, Director of the First Deputy Office of the Prime Minister in the National Unity Government.
The mission stated in a statement in particular that unknown gunmen “kidnapped Mr. Al-Freitais with his colleague on August 2, 2021, after Mr. Al-Freitais’ visit to the headquarters of the National Unity Government in Tripoli,” noting that the fate and whereabouts of both Mr. Al-Freitais and his colleague are still unknown, expressing its fear for the Their safety and security.
The United Nations Support Mission also expressed more “concern about the exposure of individuals, who had a role in supporting the democratic transition in Libya and state institutions, to being targeted in this way, which has serious repercussions on the peace and reconciliation process and on the complete unification of national institutions.”
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya said it had documented “a number of cases of unlawful arrests and detentions, enforced disappearances, torture and extrajudicial killings of citizens, officials, journalists, members of civil society and human rights defenders, in the past year.”
