Marib plunges into darkness, as tribal gunmen continue to hold fuel lorries
MARIB, April 15 (YPA) – The Yemeni northeastern city of Marib has been in darkness for two successive days, as tribal armed men detain oil trucks and prevent their access to power generating plants.
“Armed tribesmen from Al Samra Tribe in Abidah Valley have been for holding back fuel trucks heading from Mukalla and Safer company to supply Marib’s energy plants,” local sources said on Thursday.
The gunmen demand Marib local authorities loyal to the Saudi-led coalition to release a fellow tribesman reportedly jailed over charges of sabotage acts, the sources explained.
Holding the oil trucks led also to a lack of oil derivatives in the oil-rich province, according to the sources.
The blackout doubled the people’s suffering, especially during the holy month of Ramadan with high temperatures, the sources added.
