Students reject dismissal of contract teachers in Yemen’s Hadramout

MUKALLA, Sept. 22 (YPA) – Hundreds of students, school principals and teachers held a protest in Mukalla, the capital of Hadramout Province, on Monday, condemning a decision to dismiss contract teachers

The protesters rejected the Education Office’s decision to dismiss contract teachers who have worked in schools across Hadramout’s coastal districts for more than nine years, saying the move was based on directives from Saudi-backed governor Salem Al-Khanbashi.

During the protest, participants called for justice for contract teachers and demanded the settlement of their employment status and financial entitlements.

They urged authorities to use the province’s oil revenues to cover their salaries instead of excluding them after years of service.

The protesters also called for the dismissal and accountability of education officials in the coastal districts over their arbitrary measures against contract teachers, amid growing public anger over the decline of the education sector and the neglect of qualified staff.
