SANAA, March 7 (YPA) – Erbil Governorate, northern Iraq, announced the closure of its outlets with neighboring governorates on Sunday, as part of the procedures for receiving the Pope.
Erbil said in a statement that it would close its outlets with the governorates of Nineveh and Kirkuk, according to what was reported by Rudaw Media Network.
The province called on citizens and drivers of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan region of Iraq, to cooperate with the traffic police in some of the city’s public roads and to reflect a “beautiful and modern image” of the capital when the Pope was received.
Earlier, a security official in Erbil said that the closure of the city’s outlets with the Iraqi provinces will be extended until six o’clock on Sunday evening.
The official directed citizens in other Iraqi governorates to postpone their trips to Erbil until the road was opened “because no one will be allowed to enter Erbil during the closure period.”
