Death toll from Indonesia earthquake rises to 882 dead, injured

JAKARTA, Jan. 17 (YPA) – The death toll from the earthquake that struck the Indonesian island of Sulawesi on Friday has risen to 56 and about 826 injured, according to the country’s National Disaster Management Agency.

According to the National Disaster Council, the quake measured 6.2 on the Richter scale, and its epicenter was near the city of Mamuju in West Sulawesi province.

Indonesia is considered one of the most earthquake-active regions on Earth, and it forms part of the so-called “Pacific Ring of Fire.”
