Gunmen kidnap soldier in Taiz

TAIZ, Nov. 18 (YPA) – Unidentified gunmen on Wednesday kidnapped a soldier of  belonging to the ” 17th Brigade” in areas under the control of the Al-Islah party in the central of Taiz, southwestern Yemen.

“The gunmen kidnapped  Iyad Majid al-Abbsi, who works in the 17th Infantry Brigade, from the city centre, in front of people, and took him to an unknown destination,” a local source said.

The motivates of his abduction are not yet known, one of the sources said.

The source explained that the kidnapped soldier was among the armed elements who clashed with the forces of the so-called 5th Brigade “Presidential Protection” of salafist leader Adnan Ruziq, in the Area of Bir Pasha yesterday.

The city of Taiz has been in chaos for the past two weeks and the main streets have been cut off due to the fighting among the  al-Islah factions, as part of the settling of scores among military leaders.
