NEW YORK, Aug. 20 (YPA) – UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, announced on Tuesday that 181 humanitarian aid workers have been killed in the Gaza Strip.
Speaking during a press briefing at the UN headquarters in New York, Dujarric noted that the announcement coincides with the World Humanitarian Day, observed globally on August 19 each year.
He highlighted that a significant number of humanitarian workers have been killed in Gaza, where “Israel” has been committing genocide against Palestinians for over 22 months.
Dujarric stated that at least 390 humanitarian workers have lost their lives while performing their duties around the world in 2024, including the 181 deaths in Gaza.
He added, “The world cannot turn a blind eye to this, at a time when attacks on aid workers and those trying to deliver assistance have become routine.”
The UN spokesperson stressed that aid workers in Gaza are risking their lives with courage to help others survive, while also struggling to feed themselves and their families.
