OCCUPIED PALESTINE, Aug. 20 (YPA) – Israeli commentator Ehud Yaari warned that any move to fully occupy the Gaza Strip could lead to a serious international crisis, amid concerns over severe backlash from Arab countries.
In analyses published by Hebrew media outlets, Yaari stated that Hamas is demanding a 60-day temporary ceasefire to regroup, but continues to reject a comprehensive agreement that includes disarmament. He noted that a new round of negotiations between the parties may resume on Sunday.
Yaari added that Hamas has shown limited flexibility on some issues, such as reducing its demands in a potential prisoner exchange deal and regarding the proposed security buffer zone along the Gaza border. However, it still firmly rejects any condition involving disarmament.
He emphasized that a renewed Israeli occupation of Gaza could spark not only deeper confrontation with Hamas, but also a broader regional crisis—potentially provoking strong backlash from key Arab states and increasing international pressure on “Israel.”
