29 killed in 2 attacks north of Burkina Faso
SANAA, Sept. 9 (YPA) – Twenty-two people were killed in two attacks, including an improvised explosive device (IED), in two districts of Sanmatenga province in northern Burkina Faso on Sunday.
According to France Press agency, government spokesman, Remis Fulgence Dandenu, said that a transport truck hit an improvised explosive device on the road Bersalogo-Gendbella in Sanmatenga province, killing 15 people and six wounded were transferred to medical centers.
Around 50 kilometers (30 miles) from Bersalogo, the spokesman said, “gunmen attacked a food aid convoy on the Dablo-Kilbo road, killing 14 civilians and causing significant material damage.”
Burkina Faso, one of the world’s poorest countries, faces “terrorist” attacks four years ago, especially in the north and east of the country, killing more than 500 people.
Initially, the attacks were concentrated in the north of the country, and then spread to other areas such as the eastern region bordering Togo and Benin, which has become the second major insecure region.
In mid-August, 24 soldiers were killed in an attack on a military base in northern Burkina Faso.
