Russian-Qatari talks over sale of S-400 missile defense systems start

SANAA, Feb. 20 (YPA) – A media source announced the start of talks between Russia and Qatar over the sale of the S-400 missile defense systems.

In the summer of 2018, the possibility of Qatar acquiring missile defense systems from Russia was announced. Finally, it was announced the start of talks on the supply of Russian air defense systems to Qatar.

The news agency “Rosiskaya Gazeta” reported that the media of the Military Technical Cooperation Organization responsible for the export of Russian weapons announced on February 19, 2019 the start of Russian-Qatari talks on the supply of S-400 systems to Qatar.

China became the first foreign country to acquire the S-400 systems.

The S-400 system was dedicated to the destruction of hostile aircraft and missiles. S-400 interceptors can hit targets 600 kilometers away and fly towards the target at a speed of 4.8 kilometers per second.
