Calls for new mass protests in Sudan, ruling party calls to boycott

SANAA, Jan. 17 (YPA) – Leadership office of the ruling party in Sudan called on students and youths not to take part in scheduled rallies on Thursday, saying “calls that harm the country.”

 

The move came by the Sudanese Assistant President Faisal Hassan Ibrahim, on Thursday, hours before the launch of rallies in 12 Sudanese cities.

 

Ibrahim’s remarks came after a meeting of the leadership Bureau of the National Congress party, in the presence of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir.

 

“We call on our children students and young people to activate with a positive spirit, preserve their property, their security and safety, and not respond to the calls that harm the country,” Ibrahim said.

 

The vice-chairman of the ruling party said the leadership office in its meeting has discussed the country’s current economic, political and operational issues.

 

“The meeting stressed the importance of the issues of youth and the younger generation in employment and recruitment, and the management of dialogue with them and approaching to their concerns,” he said.

 

He pointed out that the leadership office called for more attention to people’s living issues and price control.

 

On Wednesday, Sudanese police dispersed protests against the country’s deteriorating living conditions in a number of cities.

 

The ” Sudanese Professionals group ” and  (independent of teachers, doctors, and engineers) announced to conduct mass rallies in 12 Sudanese cities, including a march in the capital Khartoum, specifically in the “Palace Street” where the presidential palace is located.
