Deputy PM calls UN to free fuel ships held in Djibouti

SANAA, Dec. 4 (YPA) – Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Hussein Maqboli, on Tuesday called on the United Nations to play a role in releasing fuel vessels held by Saudi-led coalition in the state of Djibouti as an urgent humanitarian necessity.

“The continued holding of these vessels will disrupt the work of vital facilities, particularly hospitals and drinking water wells, and could lead to a humanitarian catastrophe,” Sharaf said during a meeting with the UN Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator in Sanaa, Lise Grande.

Sharaf expressed the national salvation government’s readiness to work for neutralizing the economy through the formation of joint committees with the other side under the UN supervision to address the economic crisis.

The meeting also touched on humanitarian needs of displaced people from Hodeidah province as a result of the non-stop escalation of Saudi-led coalition forces.

Grande confirmed that she is in contact with officials in the coalition countries to release the fuel vessels and that the United Nations would work to determine a mechanism for the continuous entry of ships.
