First cholera infection case emerges in Saudi’s southern part : officials

SANAA, Sept .17 (YPA) – One cholera infection  and three other suspected cases were recorded on Monday in an area bordering Yemen, where an epidemic has killed more than 2,000 people,  Saudi television quoted an official of the Ministry of Health as confirming.

According to the report, the patients, were identified as non-Saudis, and they are  receiving care at al-Mauwassem General Hospital in  Jizan, about 1000 km southwest of the capital, Riyadh.

It is unclear if the outbreak is linked to Yemen or to the hajj season last month, where about 2 million people flock to Saudi Arabia from abroad every year, raising fears of outbreaks of infectious disease.
